Newborn Care in Rosharon, TX
Congratulations on the arrival of your little one! The first few years of life are a truly magical time, full of amazing changes, tiny firsts, and big milestones.
At Primary Steps Pediatric Clinic, we offer newborn care to give your child the healthiest start possible. Dr. Jerry is here to ensure your baby is growing strong, developing as expected, and receiving exceptional, compassionate care every step of the way.
When Do Well-Baby Visits Begin?
Well-baby care begins early, as soon as 3 to 5 days after birth, and continues regularly for the first two and a half years of life. This schedule allows Dr. Jerry to closely monitor your little one's growth and development, offer guidance, and address questions as they come up during these fast-changing months.
Dr. Jerry typically sees her young patients at 3-5 days, two weeks, one month, two months, four months, six months, nine months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 24 months, and 30 months. After age 3, your child will transition to yearly well-child visits through age 18.
What Happens During a Well-Baby Visit?
Dr. Jerry takes the time to get to know you and your baby, offering guidance and support at every stage. She tailors each visit to your child's age, development, and unique needs.
The following is a look at what you can expect during your baby’s visits:
- Weight Checks and Growth Tracking: We will weigh and measure your little one's height to monitor their growth over time. Dr. Jerry compares these measurements to standard growth charts to ensure your child's growth and development are on track.
- Full-Body Exam: Our pediatrician will perform a thorough head-to-toe exam to check your baby's eyes, ears, mouth, skin, lungs, heart, and abdomen. Catching any concerns early on helps ensure the best possible outcomes for your little one.
- Jaundice Check: Dr. Jerry will check for jaundice, which is characterized by yellowish skin and eyes. This often happens because the liver is not yet fully developed. Newborns with severe jaundice require phototherapy in the hospital, which involves exposure to special blue lights.
- Nutritional Guidance: Proper nutrition is important for supporting healthy growth and development. Dr. Jerry offers personalized guidance, including breastfeeding tips, healthy feeding habits, formula support, and introducing solid foods.
- Vaccinations: We offer immunizations according to the AAP's recommended schedule to protect against serious, preventable illnesses. Dr. Jerry will explain what to expect and answer any questions you may have.
- Developmental Screenings: Dr. Jerry will observe how your baby moves, interacts, and responds to the surrounding environment. These screenings help detect any developmental concerns early, when interventions are most effective.
- Risk Factor Evaluations: Dr. Jerry will evaluate factors that can increase the risk of health problems in your little one. These may be related to your baby's health, your health during pregnancy, family history, or environmental factors.
- Preventive Care Discussions: Preventive care is a key component of each visit. Our pediatrician will talk with you about sleep positioning to reduce the risk of SIDS, car seat usage, baby-proofing, and other age-appropriate precautions to keep your little one safe.
Getting to Know You and Your Baby
Dr. Jerry takes a whole-child approach to caring for her young patients. This begins with understanding your baby's prenatal history, delivery, and first few days of life. By learning about your child's early background, she can better support their future health and provide personalized guidance to fit your family's unique needs.
And just as she monitors your baby's well-being, Dr. Jerry also provides you with guidance and support. Parenthood comes with plenty of questions and emotions, especially in the beginning. Whether you need reassurance, resources, or a little encouragement, she's here for you every step of the way.
