Frequently asked Questions

General Pediatric Care

What ages of children do you treat?

I provide medical care to patients from birth through 18 years of age.

What should I bring to my child’s first visit?

You should bring newborn discharge paperwork (newborns/infants), prior medical and immunization records, a current insurance card copy, and the driver’s license of the parent / legal guardian.

Do you offer same-day appointments for sick visits?

Same-day appointments are available. Appointments may be scheduled via the patient portal or by contacting the clinic at (346) 692-9161.

Newborn Care

How often should I bring my newborn in for checkups?

Newborns should have check-ups at 3–5 days, 2 weeks, and 1 month after birth.

How can I tell if my newborn is eating enough?

It is possible to determine if a baby is consuming enough by observing urine output, tracking weight gain, and maintaining a feeding schedule of 8 to 12 times in a 24-hour period.  It is recommended that newborns attend scheduled check-ups and follow-up visits to monitor their intake and weight.

Nutrition & Healthy Habits

How can I help my child maintain a healthy weight?

Parents can support children in maintaining a healthy weight by offering balanced meals, reducing the availability of sugary drinks and processed foods, and promoting sufficient sleep each night.  Limiting screen time and encouraging regular physical activities are also recommended.

How can I encourage my child to be more physically active?

Infants and young children should regularly engage in interactive play.  Children aged six and older should get at least one hour of moderate physical activity daily.  Parents can reduce screen time while promoting involvement in extracurricular activities and sports.   Additionally, organizing family outings that incorporate walking or other forms of physical activity can further support a healthy lifestyle for the entire family.

Behavioral & Mental Health

How can I tell if my child has ADHD?

Signs of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children may include issues with maintaining focus, being easily distracted, hyperactivity, acting impulsively, often leaving tasks unfinished, and frequently misplacing items.  These behaviors should be observed across multiple environments, such as the home and school.  If your child exhibits these symptoms, it is recommended to schedule a behavioral consultation with the pediatrician for further evaluation.

What are some ways to reduce stress and anxiety in my child?

Parents can help reduce their child's stress by promoting good sleep habits, offering balanced meals, and ensuring at least an hour of daily physical activity.  Children should be encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities and hobbies of interest.  Parents should also limit their child’s screen time to reduce anxiety.   It is recommended to consult with the pediatrician if you have concerns about your child's behavior or well-being

How do I know if my child has Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that can affect communication and social skills in children.  Indicators of autism may include delayed speech, repetitive language and behaviors, limited eye contact, issues with changes in routine, and loss of previously acquired developmental milestones.  Routine screenings for autism typically are performed at 18 and 24 months of age.  Parents are advised to discuss any concerns about their child's development with the pediatrician.
